Glass Action Glazing & Safety Glass
We define "safety glass" as being a glass solution that resists splintering dangerously.
Ordinary annealed glass installed before the introduction of safety standards in 1989 is a serious accident waiting to happen.
Glass Action specialise in the field of glazing and safety glass replacement, manufacturing and custom repair for interior and exterior glass such as, but not limited to glass walls, windows and doors found at commercial and residential properties in and about Melbourne.
Safety Laminated Glass
A safety glass solution for residential and commercial window applications is laminated safety glass that resists shattering. It’s a composite of two or sometimes more sheets of glass with an intermediate layer of transparent plastic between each layer.
In the event of safety laminated glass breaking, it is held in place by the interlayer of transparent plastic. These intermediate layers keeps glass bonded even when broken, and its high strength prevents the glass from breaking up into large sharp pieces.
Safety laminated glass produces a characteristic "spider web" cracking pattern when the impact is not enough to completely pierce the glass and is an ideal solution for the safety conscious.
Toughened / Tempered Safety Glass
Toughened or tempered safety glass breaks into rounded grains instead of jagged shards. During the manufacture process thermal and/or chemical treatments are used to increase its strength compared with normal glass making. It’s less likely to cause severe injury and deep lacerations in the event of an accident.
Our glazing company commonly recommends toughened/tempered glass for unframed assemblies (such as frameless doors), structurally loaded applications, glass table and bench tops and any other commercial or residential applications that would become dangerous in the event of human impact.
Glass Safety when Double or Triple Glazing
We find double-glazing and triple glazing is often confused as being safety glass. Unless it’s a layered, laminated, toughened or tempered glass window or wall as opposed to ordinary annealed glass, it’s better categorised as being unsafe glass panes with space between them that reduce heat and noise transmission.
If you’ve been reading this page, chances are you’ve got large areas of glass in your home or business premises. Make no mistake; it’s your responsibility to ensure the safety of your family, friends and employees. By law, glass in the home and workplace must comply with current Australian Standard Guidelines. It’s in your best interest to do something about glass safety, whoever you choose to enlist.
